"I just want to say thank you for serving us dinner tonight.  This gift you bring to us is greatly appreciated and goes a long way.  You bring a sense of happiness and a warm feeling into my heart with your gift, and joy and harmony into my life.  So thank you."

-- A note from a client at the men's homeless shelter where KidzCare USA sometimes serves meals

KidzCare® USA offers classes for home schooled children (and other children with flexible schedules) in grades K-8.  Our classes meet on Monday afternoons from 1:30-2:45pm.  Last year, classes met at the Church of Christ at Manor Woods in Rockville, and we hope to be able to use this location again but this has not yet been confirmed and is subject to change.

Our Elementary Class (grades K-5) is an exciting class in which young children learn about selected service-learning topics.  In each class, students will (1) learn about the topic through guest speakers from local non-profits, stories, games, or other activities, (2) complete a hands-on service project to help meet that need, and (3) spend time reflecting on how their project met a specific need.

Our Middle School Class (grades 6-8) takes students on a more in-depth look at our selected topic.  Each topic is covered in an 8-week unit in which students will learn about the topic and will also learn to independently plan and implement a service project for each topic covered.   Students will use a curriculum written by Cathryn Berger Kaye, a nationally recognized expert on children's service-learning curriculum.  The goal of this class is to teach students to start thinking independently about social needs, and to develop their leadership skills by learning to plan and implement service projects that help meet those needs.

Teens in grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply for volunteer assistant teaching positions in our elementary class.
